The ‘Copy Case’ functionality lets you quickly create a new case by duplicating an existing case within the system. You can copy data from the original case to the new case, e.g., filing dates and application numbers.

This functionality is commonly used to create new family members for an existing case, particularly when filing international applications or where there is a parent/child relation between cases. (For more information on case families see the section on the Family tab).

The steps below outline the process, using the example of creating a WIPO application case:

  1. Open a case in Equinox and go to the Details tab

  2. Click Copy Case in the left-hand menu Options

  3. This takes you to the Copy screen. From here you can choose which fields to copy over.
  4. Edit the Country, if necessary

  5. Enter a new case code manually or click Generate to automatically create the new code
Note: The case code needs to be unique and different from the original case. The new country code is usually added to the end of the existing case code

  6. Edit the case category/sub-category, if necessary

  7. Choose which case details should be copied to the new case. Tick/untick the box next to any fields you want to be copied.
Note: Any greyed out fields cannot be edited during the copy case functionality.

  8. Check the tick options displayed on the right of the screen to specify additional settings

  9. Click Create Copy

  10. You'll be taken to the Details tab of the newly created case.
Note: There's a link between the Parent case (original case) and Child case (copied case) in the information displayed on the right hand side of the case Details.
