Categories are used to track the purpose or entity of your contacts.

Different categories are available in the two sections of the Address Book (‘Client, Associate and Other Side’ vs. ‘Applicant and Inventor’) as these are used to store different entities.

Note: It is possible to rename the Categories of contacts under System > System Wordings. This may affect how the contact is labelled on the Contacts tab of a case and in drop down lists.

Within each section or the Address Book, a contact can be assigned to more than one category to avoid having to create multiple records for the same contact.

E.g. A contact can be a Client and a Foreign Associate, or a contact can be an Applicant and Inventor.

It is also possible to link entities in the ‘Applicant/Inventor’ section to entities in the ‘Client/Associate’ section as Statutory Contacts.
